It’s the middle of December and 2018 is on its way out! This year we’ve snapped photos at 57 races in NYC, Paris, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Long Island, Central New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Dallas! Time sure flies, but not as fast as these runners!!
While 2018 was great, 2019 is going to be even better. And the improvements will begin on January 1st!
After the 2017 Philly Marathon, where I first got the idea for Cheer Everywhere, I had my eyes on the NYRR Midnight Run to kick off my NYC cheering spree in 2018. The Midnight Run is the first NYRR race of the year, and a great tradition for folks who want to start the new year with some quality mileage. From the event page:
Kick off the New Year at the Midnight Run! Join the fun and celebrate with music and dancing (starting at 10:00 p.m.) as [current year] comes to a close. With a countdown to midnight beginning at 11:59 p.m., the four-mile run will begin on the stroke of midnight, as will a spectacular fireworks display to light up the night and the start of [current year + 1].
But I lived in Brooklyn at the time, it was 10 degrees out that night, and I had to be up early New Year’s Day for a polar plunge at Coney Island. So…I chickened out. I bought a bunch of New Year’s props and noisemakers I never got to use. How sad.
But this time around, in the new and improved year of 2019, I’ll be there! I’ll be at Mile 3 – my usual cheer spot for 4 milers in Central Park.
Beyond this race, I have a few more New Year’s resolutions:
I hope you finish out 2018 accomplishing all you’ve set out to do. And I’ll see some of you in Central Park on January 1st!
To 2019!
