Bomb Cyclone! Two Runs Cancelled This Weekend

This week in New York City, we were hit with – to use the latest weather-related buzzword in the media – a bomb cyclone! Much of the USA saw unseasonably low temperatures and a blast of snow and high winds. When NYC public schools are cancelled, you know the incoming weather system means business.

In my last blog post I had conveyed my excitement for cheering three races scheduled to take place in Central Park this month. Well…two of those races were supposed to happen this weekend, and both have been cancelled! Bummer.

I found out NYRR‘s Joe Kleinerman 10K was cancelled via a Facebook announcement posted Thursday on their corresponding event page.

It’s going to be cold? So what! At least turn it into a fun run! That’s what I thought about NYRR’s decision when I first read this. But I understand why they wouldn’t want to risk someone falling on the ice. The temps have been much too cold for it to melt by Saturday.

Then I found out today that NYCRUNS5 Miler is also cancelled! From their Facebook feed:

There goes two of the three races I wished to cheer! The only one remaining is the Fred Lebow Manhattan Half, scheduled for the 21st of January. Here’s hoping for good weather!

New Tripod on its way!

One positive that comes out of these races being cancelled? My tripod will have shipped by the time the Manhattan Half takes place!

The most important thing the tripod will allow me to do is take a steady stream of video without switching between holding the camera and holding up signs. I have created a YouTube channel for this page, and hope to have video content that accompanies my blog posts. Right now there’s no content, because I have yet to record any video :).

Stay warm.

It’s cold out there y’all. Have a good weekend!
